But if people are entitled to their own opinions then they can say what they want about the Americans, can't they?
Free speech and all that???

That video's a laugh riot.
If only we had the right to free speech in the UK. We don't.

What the fuck is a "Constitutional Monarchy" supposed to be? We don't have a constitution.

bullshit.
Maybe you don't read the papers?
"The incitement offence will not provide protection under any circumstances on discrimination grounds but will provide a fetter on people expressing publicly views that are regarded as being hostile or unpleasant to members of particular religious faiths,"

I realise that this is from a newspaper, but if you like, you can read the full transcripts from the Parliamentry debate.

Just something to think about.
freedom is worth breaking the law for.
Totaly. But should you have to live in a society where you are forced to do that to express yourself?
--------------------------
I don't think so.
Well, apart from that...
Come off it. If you are going to piss of religious sensitives then you are going to piss them off whatever the law trys to do about it.
Not a counter arguament I know, but this is a measure of the times we are currently living
through.
Have you ever been to a country where freedom of speech is restricted? Do you know what its like?
To really not be able to talk about important things?
tippity tappity into the internet - feels like freedom to me....
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes. This one. What the hell are all those 75 year official secrets things for? I still can't read about or discuss some events that happened during World War 2! How could any of that be damaging to national security now? How many times have you heard about gagging orders being placed on the press. I'm not just talking about the government either, private citizens can have power of censure as well.Originally posted by eidde:

Freedom of speech means just that. Being free to say or publish ANYTHING you like, right, wrong, true, or false. We do not have that here. The obscene publications act? Gimmie a break. I can watch a man be shot to death on national television but a book can be banned?
As far as the internet goes. If arseholes don't stop posting kiddie porn on it, we're going to loose that too.
For the record. I personally do not agree with total freedom as far as what you can say/do/post on he internet goes. Some things ARE unnaceptable to society. My point was that here, unlike the US, the right to freedom of speech is not written down anywhere. We do not have a constitution that guarantees our rights. We only have the law. Although it does make me feel smug when my American friends are telling me:
"You don't have a constitution? How can you be free?"
To which I, of course, reply.
"I'm British, I don't have to be told that I'm free."
